Reaching more people is not always the same as reaching the right people. For Canadian businesses, a focused media-distribution plan starts with the audience you want to inform and the outlets that already serve that audience.
Begin with the audience
Describe who the announcement matters to: customers, local communities, trade professionals, investors or a particular region. This makes it easier to select relevant media categories and avoid sending the same message everywhere without context.
Match the story to the outlet
A local expansion, a new service, a community initiative and an industry milestone may each be relevant to different publications. Give each outlet a clear reason to care by leading with the most relevant fact, not a broad promotional claim.
Make follow-up simple
Use a direct headline, a concise opening paragraph and a named contact. Include dates, locations and links that help a reader verify the news. A media list is most valuable when the message is prepared for the people receiving it.
Targeted distribution does not replace a strong story. It gives a clear, useful story a better chance of reaching the people it was written for.
